Poland deployed an aircraft in a “preventive” operation on Saturday’s national airspace due to the threat of drones in neighboring areas of Ukraine, the authorities said. The airport in the eastern Polish city of Lublin was also closed.
The warning came after the Russian drones “repeatedly” violated the Polish air space after crossing from neighboring Ukraine, which made the country scratch military jets and closed the main airport in their capital on Wednesday.
Operation command of the Polish army published on Saturday afternoon published on X that ground air and reconnaissance systems were in high readiness. He stressed that “these actions are of a preventive nature” and focused on ensuring the Polish airspace and protecting the country’s citizens. He quoted the threat of drone strikes in the regions of Ukraine bordering on Poland, but immediately did not give more details.
