Pokémon has publicly condemned the US Department of Internal Security (DHS) using its iconic phrase “Gotta Catch” Em All “in a video supporting deportation raid without franchise.
DHS video sparks of controversy
The video shared on the social media platform was presented by migrants who were agents with immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) and other DHS employees. Montage was paired with graphics with the theme of Pokémon, including fake cards for detainees and franchise hero clips Ash Ketchum performing signature movements with subtitles that encourage viewers to “catch”.
Pokemon condemns unauthorized use
The Japanese entertainment company that responded to the campaign said it did not participate in video production.
“We are aware of the recent video published by the Ministry of Internal Security, which includes images and language associated with our brand,” Pokémon said on the center of Variety. “Our society has not participated in the creation or distribution of this content and has not been granted permission for the use of our intellectual property.”
This is not the first case
This means the second case this week, in which DHS has used public value or content of the company without consent. Previously, DHS published a video with a comedian and conservative influential influence of Theo von, modified to emphasize the deportation event under the title “Bye”.
Von, which was not consulted for video, took X to clarify his attitude.
“Yooo DHS, I didn’t approve of it to be used in it,” he wrote. “I know you know my address, so send a check. And please take it off and please hold me outside your” banger “deportation videos. As for immigration, my thoughts and hearts are much more nuanced than this video allows.
