
Security forces detained a Pakistani woman who had crossed into Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Poonch district along the Line of Control (LoC), news agency PTI reported.
The woman has been identified as Shehnaz Akhtar, a resident of Gimma area of Kotli district Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). After an argument with her father, she moved to Indian Territory.
“A 35-year-old Pakistani national, identified as Shehnaz Akhtar of Gimma area of Kotli district of PoK, was arrested by army troops from Dabbi forward area of Balakote sector on Tuesday,” PTI it reported on Wednesday, citing officials.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Pakistani girl had an argument with her father and fled her house towards the ceasefire area before being apprehended by an Indian Army unit. She is yet to be handed over to the local police, officials said.
DIG JSK assesses operational readiness in Kathua
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, JSK Range, Shiv Kumar, on Wednesday led a high-level security review in Billawar area of Kathua district to assess and enhance operational preparedness following the recent firing incident in Soan area of Udhampur district.
The review, involving various security officials, comes on the heels of an encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorists in Udhampur on December 15.
During the meeting, DIG Kumar emphasized the vital importance of maintaining peace and security in the entire region. He issued express instructions to all officers to remain extra vigilant and stressed the need for thorough coordination among various security agencies to proactively address any future challenges.
The main areas of focus for the review included:
- Deployment strategy: The DIG reviewed the current deployment and directed that additional forces be immediately mobilized in sensitive and vulnerable areas to avoid any untoward incidents.
- Intelligence and information sharing: He emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering and timely information sharing to anticipate and counter security threats.
- Force Readiness and Morale: The DIG assessed the overall law and order situation, reviewed the preparedness and manpower of the police force and specifically reviewed the performance of ground personnel to boost their morale. Officers have been instructed to maintain high visibility and intensify security checks and patrols within their jurisdictions.
SSP Kathua, Mohita Sharma briefed the DIG about the current security scenario in Billawar and specific measures put in place to ensure peace and order.
DIG Kumar also held a joint meeting with the army authorities and assured them of Jammu and Kashmir Police’s unwavering commitment to work closely with them to maintain stability in the region.
