Earlier Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock and sorrow over the Air India’s aircraft crash, which was transported by 242 people in Ahmedabad.
“The tragedy in Ahmedabad has amazed us and grieves us. It’s heartbreaking in words,” Modi said.
“In this sad lesson, my thoughts are with each affected. They were in contact with ministers and authorities working to help those disabled,” he said in the X post.
There was no official number of killed hours after the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AI171) crashed at the City Civil Hospital and BJ Medical College near the international airport Sardar Vallabhbhai and broke into a fireball.
According to Air India, 230 passengers were 169 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian. Another 12 were two pilots and 10 crew members.
According to Air India, the Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which acted as a flight AI-171, left Ahmedabad at 13:38 with 242 people on board, including the crew.
