Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed a public rally at Taherpur Netaji Park in Ranaghat virtually through video conferencing after poor visibility prevented his helicopter from landing at the Taherpur heliport near the venue, forcing him to return to the Kolkata airport.
“I am sorry that the bad weather prevented me from reaching the place in Nadia, Bengal,” PM Modi said while addressing a rally in Taherpur.
Due to low visibility, the prime minister’s helicopter, after hovering over the makeshift helipad in Taherpur for a while, turned around and returned to the Kolkata airport, the official said.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati later in the day for a two-day visit to Assam, where he is expected to attend several programs and also inaugurate the new terminal of the Guwahati Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
Addressing a rally in Bengal – where parliamentary elections are being held in 2026 – PM Modi said the saffron party would end the TMC’s “Maha jungle raj” in Bengal, where corruption, nepotism and politics of appeasement rule.
