Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the renovated Mangalagiri railway station under Guntur Division on July 17 (Friday). The station was upgraded as part of the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) at a cost of ₹ 12.56 crore with upgraded passenger amenities and improved infrastructure. The railway station directly connects with Andhra Pradesh capital Amaravati.
The Mangalagiri NSG-4 category station has undergone extensive redevelopment, including renovation of the existing station building and construction of a second entrance complex with a booking office, waiting rooms and a VIP lounge. The project also includes improved facade, spacious entrance porch, improved platform surfaces, modern toilets, improved waiting areas, durable seats, standardized signage for passengers and landscaped surroundings, Guntur Divisional Commercial Director Vinay Kanth D told The Hindu on Tuesday.
To improve accessibility, the station has been equipped with two lifts, tactile paths, ramps and accessible toilets for “Divyangjan” (handicapped) passengers. New platform shelters have been installed on platforms 1 and 4, while the front and rear concourses now include dedicated parking spaces, pedestrian walkways, street lighting, lane markings and boundary walls with wider entry and exit gates.
The converted station also offers rooms for retirees, modern booking facilities and artistic features reflecting the cultural identity of the region. Railway officials said the project will improve passenger comfort, operational efficiency and boost socio-economic development of the Mangalagiri region.
