Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to United States President Donald Trump on phone to review India-US relations and vowed to continue working together for global peace, stability and prosperity. Assessing the progress made in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, Prime Minister Modi and Donald Trump also discussed expanding cooperation in trade, critical technology, energy, defense and security.
Narendra Modi, who joined X after his phone call with Donald Trump, said, “He had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments.”
“India and the US will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity,” the Prime Minister added. The two leaders agreed to work closely together to address common challenges and advance common interests, PTI quoted the official as saying.
According to a press statement, both Prime Minister Modi and Trump expressed satisfaction over the continuous strengthening of ties between the two countries. They stressed the need to maintain momentum in efforts to boost bilateral trade, especially as India and the US continue ongoing trade negotiations.

Prime Minister Modi and President Trump also discussed expanding cooperation in critical technology, energy, defense and security and other key areas that are key to the implementation of the India-US COMPACT (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) framework for the 21st century.
The leaders discussed regional and global developments and agreed to work closely together to address common challenges and advance common strategic interests. Both sides agreed to stay in touch as high-level talks continue. The talks come amid ongoing trade talks between India and the US.
Relations between India and the United States have soured after Donald Trump imposed 25 percent additional tariffs on imports from India for continued purchases of Russian oil.
On Thursday, December 11, Mexican City approved an increase in tariffs of up to 50 percent starting in 2026 on imports of selected products from Asian countries, including India and China, to protect the nation’s industries and manufacturers.
The regulation imposes tariffs on the import of various goods in the areas of auto parts, light vehicles, clothing, plastics, steel, household appliances, toys, textiles, furniture, footwear, leather goods, paper and cardboard, motorcycles, aluminum, trailers, glass and soaps, perfumes and cosmetics.
