Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has repeated the traditional goals of foreign policy in India, visits Cyper and Croatia, official sources in Nový Delhi said on Monday (9 June 2025).
Mr. Modi visits Cyprus on his way to Canada to attend the G-7 summit (June 15-17), and will visit Croatia on his way back, which will be the first visit to the Prime Minister from the Indian side since the foundation of Croatia in 1991 after the abolition of the former Yugoslavia.
Both visits are described as important from both political and commercial. Sources in Nový Delhi indicated that Cyprus would serve as a report by Türkiy, which helped Pakistan during the Sindoor operation in May. In recent years, these cultural contacts have been complemented by growing defensive and technological relations. Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić-Radman took part in the dialogue of Raisin in March 2023 when he signed a memorandum of understanding about defensive cooperation with Mr. Jaishankar.
Sources said that a visit to Croatia has another diplomatic significance because it suggests that India is a constant commitment to partners of irregularities, because the former founder of Yugoslavia Josip Broz was also Croatian.
Officials in Nový Delhi said that both Cyprus and Croatia have gained increasing importance in recent years after the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) has launched during the G-20 summit in Nový Delhi in 2023. Croatia, with extensive naval facilities and ports on the Adriatic Sea, is attractive to India’s commitment to IMEC, said sources and set the context of the upcoming visits to Modi.
