In an interview with news agency PTI on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Indian Prime Minister Modi highlighted how the country has been successful in negotiating multiple Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with 38 foreign nations.
Modi said that on the back of the country’s strong manufacturing, services and SME sectors, India was able to negotiate trade pacts from a “position of strength” with foreign nations.
“Stronger manufacturing, services, small and medium enterprises enable India to negotiate trade pacts from a position of strength,” Prime Minister Modi said in an interview with a news agency.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said India proposed free trade agreements to expand market access for small and medium enterprises in the textile, leather, chemical, handicraft, gem and other sectors.
“Our FTAs are designed to expand market access for small and medium enterprises in the textile, leather, chemical, handicraft, gem and other sectors,” PM Modi said.
