Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (Oct 25, 2025) extended greetings on the occasion of Chhath, a four-day festival to worship the Sun God celebrated across the country, especially in Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern UP.
“The four-day grand Chhath festival begins today with the sacred ritual of ‘Nahay-Khay’. My heartfelt wishes to the devotees across Bihar and the entire nation. My respect and greetings to all those observing the fast,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
He also shared a song by noted singer Sharda Sinha whose soulful rendition adds to the excitement of the festival.
Mr Modi said he was in Begusarai on Friday (October 24, 2025), a place with which Sinha shared a soulful connection.

“This grand festival of our culture symbolizes simplicity and restraint, the sanctity and observance of which is unparalleled. The views of the Chhath ghat on this auspicious occasion inspire wonderful family and social harmony. The ancient tradition of Chhath has had a profound impact on our society,” Mr. Modi said.
“Today, Chhath is celebrated as a great cultural festival in every corner of the world. Indian families living abroad also participate in its traditions with deep sincerity. I pray that Chhathi Maiya bestows her bountiful blessings on everyone,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that ‘Chhath Mahaparv’ is a unique amalgamation of faith, devotion and love of nature, where prayers to the setting and rising sun are offered and even the offerings reflect the different shades of nature.
“The songs and tunes sung during Chhath are full of devotion and the spirit of nature,” he said.
“Yesterday it was my privilege to have an opportunity to visit Begusarai. Bihar’s ‘Kokila’ Sharda Sinha ji shares a soulful connection with Begusarai. Through her songs, Sharda Sinha ji and many folk artists from Bihar have added a special emotion to the celebration of Chhath,” Mr. Modi said.
