Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday felicitated India’s blind women’s cricket team for scripting history with their title triumph in the inaugural Blind Women’s World Cup T20. He described the victory as proof of the team’s collective audacity, discipline and unwavering faith, which remained undefeated throughout the tournament.
India outclassed Nepal by seven wickets in the final at the P Sara Oval in Colombo on Sunday, first restricting them to 114 for 5 before chasing down the target with remarkable ease. The chase was wrapped up in just 12 overs, underscoring India’s dominance in the tournament where they defeated Sri Lanka, Australia, Nepal, USA and Pakistan in the league stage before beating Australia again in the semi-finals.
“Congratulations to India’s Blind Women’s Cricket Team for creating history by winning the inaugural Blind Women’s World Cup T20! More commendable is the fact that they remain unbeaten in the series,” Modi wrote on X.
“This is truly a historic sporting achievement, a shining example of hard work, teamwork and determination. Every player is a champion! I wish the team all the best in their future endeavours. This feat will inspire generations to come.”
The major tournament was co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with matches taking place in Colombo, Delhi and Bengaluru. Played by a team of 11 using a white plastic ball filled with ball bearings, blind cricket continues to grow in popularity worldwide – and India’s victory added a powerful new chapter to the sport’s story.
The Prime Minister also applauded India’s strong performance at the Boxing World Cup Finals held in Greater Noida, where the country produced one of its best ever performances on the international stage.
“Our phenomenal athletes put up an extraordinary, record-breaking performance at the 2025 Boxing World Cup Finals! Brought home an unprecedented 20 medals including 9 golds,” Modi wrote.
“It is because of the determination and determination of our boxers. Congratulations to them. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours.”
As Indian athletes continue to excel across mainstream and para-sporting platforms, Modi’s message reflected a growing national pride in sporting excellence and inclusivity.
