Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed India’s landmark sporting achievements in 2025. The Indian men’s team started the year on a high by winning the Champions Trophy in the United Arab Emirates before clinching the Asia Cup in September.
The focus then shifted to the Indian women’s team, who enjoyed a historic run during the year. In November, India clinched their first ICC title lifting the women’s world championship at home after defeating South Africa in the final. Apart from the celebrations, the Indian blind team continued to win the inaugural Blind T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.
Earlier in February, India’s U19 Women’s team, led by Niki Prasad, captured the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Appreciating these remarkable feats, Prime Minister Modi felicitated ‘Daughters of Bharat’ for scripting history in 2025.
“2025 was also a memorable year in terms of sports. Our men’s cricket team won the ICC Champions’ Trophy. The women’s cricket team won the World Cup for the first time. Daughters of Bharat created history by winning the Blind Women’s World Cup T20,” Modi said while addressing the nation at the 129th Ki Baat’Mann programme.
NO OBSTACLE CAN STOP DETERMINATION
PM Modi also praised the Indian Para-Athletes for their incredible show at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi. India put in a historic performance to secure 22 medals (6 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze) to finish 10th overall.
Compared to previous editions, this marked a significant leap. Stars like Sumit Antil, Deepthi Jeevanji and Shailesh Kumar led the charge, setting records and marking a major milestone for Indian Para Athletics.
“The Indian tricolor was hoisted with pride when India won the Asia Cup T20 trophy. By winning several medals in the world championships, the para-athletes have proved that no obstacle can stop determination,” added PM Modi.
In 2026, India will look to continue this trend, with the Women’s T20 World Cup, Men’s T20 World Cup, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games scheduled throughout the year.
