On Friday (April 4, 2025), Prime Minister Narendra Modi left Thailand for Colombo when visiting a focus on defense ties and deepening cooperation in the field of energy, trade and connection with Sri Lanka.
Mr. Modi appeared in Sri Lanka after participating in the Bimstec Summit (Bay of Bengal Initiative for more sector technical and economic cooperation) grouping in Bangkok.
The Prime Minister will be the first foreign leader organized by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka after taking the lead last September.
Mr. Modi last traveled to Sri Lanka in 2019. It will be his fourth visit to the island nation since 2015.
