PM Modi issues public appeal as heatwave grips India: ‘Offer water to others, control parents’ | Today’s news

With temperatures soaring in several parts of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged citizens to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions during the ongoing heat wave.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Prime Minister said intense summer conditions are affecting people across India and advised citizens to stay hydrated while going out.

“Various parts of India are witnessing soaring temperatures and the problems associated with it. This heat is rough on all of us and I urge you all to take as many precautions as possible. Please stay hydrated, carry water with you when you go out. Offer a glass of water to others. In this weather, kindness goes a long way,” PM Modi tweeted.

The call comes at a time when many states in north and central India are witnessing extreme temperatures, with several regions reporting conditions close to or above 45 degrees Celsius.

PM warns of heat exhaustion and heatstroke

In another post, the Prime Minister warned citizens against ignoring the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke, especially among vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and people working outdoors.

“Be on the lookout for signs of heat exhaustion such as dizziness, nausea or extreme fatigue. If someone around you feels unusually unwell, weak, or develops a headache, it’s best to help them move to a cool, shady place immediately. Make sure they get water, ORS, etc. to help them,” he wrote.

PM Modi further added, “Children, the elderly and those who work outdoors are particularly vulnerable during extreme heat. Ignoring these warning signs can quickly become dangerous and can even lead to heat stroke. In such weather, early care and attention goes a long way.”

The prime minister also called on citizens to regularly check on elderly family members and loved ones during hot weather.

“Whenever possible, call and check on elderly parents, grandparents and loved ones during this heat wave. Remind them to stay hydrated, avoid going out in the afternoon rush hour and rest whenever possible,” he said.

PM urges compassion for birds and animals

Apart from urging precautionary measures for people, PM Modi also appealed to the citizens to remember the birds and animals struggling in the conditions of intense heat.

“In this extreme heat, let’s also remember the birds and animals around us. A small bowl of water kept outside your home, balconies, terraces, shops or offices can become a lifeline for a thirsty bird. May compassion guide us in these difficult days,” the Prime Minister wrote in another post.

The report resonated widely online as several parts of the country continue to witness prolonged dry and harsh summer conditions.
