Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (October 1, 2025) praised the RSS on its 100th anniversary and said that the organization never showed any bitterness despite several attacks because it continued to work on the principle of the nation first.
He took part in the anniversary of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Nový Dilli, Mr. Modi emphasized the contribution of Sangh in building a nation and said he had achieved every corner of the country to support harmony by removing caste or religion divisions.
“Sangh fought the British atrocities. Their only interest was always love of the nation,” Modi said, adding that Sangh volunteers gave shelter to freedom fighters, and his leaders were also imprisoned during freedom.
The Prime Minister said there were numerous attempts to crush the spirit of the RSS by balancing the accusations and registration of false cases.
“The RSS has never been bitter, despite attempts at false cases against them, attempts to disable them and other challenges, because we are part of a company where we accept both good and bad,” he said in an apparent reference to the RSS ban on the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
Modi said that even the then RSS chief Madhav Golwalkar was fake and sent to prison.
“Yet, when he came out, he said with calm wisdom:” Sometimes the tongue can grab under his teeth, but we do not break his teeth, “the prime minister said.
He said that every “swayamsevak” has steady confidence in democracy and constitutional institutions that gave them strength to face challenges.
“When an emergency situation was stored, this trust gave strength to every Swayamsevak to face it,” he said.
The Prime Minister also issued a special postage stamp and a commemorative coin that described the centenary of the RSS.
“The 100 GBP coin has a national character on one side, and on the other hand it depicts the majestic image of Bharat Mat in Varada Mudra with a lion, while Swayamsevaks bow to her devotion and determination in front of her,” Modi said.
“For the first time in the history of independent India, the image of Bharat Mat was stated on Indian currency, which means the moment of great pride and historical significance,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the founding of the RSS on Vijaya Dashmi was not just a chance 100 years ago, it was the resurrection of a tradition that continues for thousands of years.
“Sangh has been synonymous with patriotism and service since its foundation,” he said.
Mr Modi claimed that the RSS believes in “one India, great India”, yet attempts to independence were made to avoid to join the national mainstream “Unity in diversity has always been the soul of India if this principle is interrupted.
The celebrations of the centenary were organized by the Ministry of Culture and were introduced by the Secretary General of RSS Datatreya Hosabale, the main Minister Delhi Rekha Gupt and the Minister of Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
RSS was founded in 1925 in Nagpur by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and was founded as an organization based on volunteers in order to support cultural awareness, discipline, services and social responsibility among citizens.
Mr. Modi was RSS ‘Pracharak’ himself and made a brand as a capable organizer before being moved to BJP, which draws his ideological inspiration from the organization Hindutva.
