This came a day after the Prime Minister spoke on the situation in the Middle East in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
He is speaking in the Chamber of Deputies during the ongoing Budget Session of ParliamentOn Monday, the prime minister said the situation in the Middle East was “disturbing”. He said the Union government had made adequate provision for fertilizers amid concerns over imports due to the conflict in West Asia and said the government had never “allowed the burden of global crises to fall on farmers”.
Prime Minister Modi’s speech to the Lok Sabha came amid escalating tensions in West Asia that have disrupted critical maritime corridors and raised concerns about the safety of Indian citizens in Gulf countries.
Prime Minister Modi touched on India’s stance on the evolving situation, including its diplomatic engagement, regional stability concerns and impact on global energy and trade routesto his address. It was his first in the Lok Sabha during the ongoing budget session of Parliament.
Prime Minister Modi said the crisis in West Asia has been going on for more than three weeks and is having a very adverse impact on the global economy and people’s lives. He said the whole world is urging all parties to resolve this crisis as soon as possible.
On the critical issue of energy supplies, the Prime Minister acknowledged that large quantities of oil, gas, fertilizers and other essentials enter India through the Strait of Hormuz and that shipping through the strait has become very difficult since the war.
