PM Modi awarded the highest Slovak award, the total number of international awards reached 33 | Today’s news
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded Slovakia’s highest national award, the Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class), on Monday (June 15), marking a significant milestone in India-Slovakia relations.
The award, reserved exclusively for foreign citizens, was presented by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini at a ceremony in Bratislava.
This is the 33rd international honor conferred on PM Modi.
Accepting the honour, PM Modi said the credit goes to the people of India.
“I am honored to receive the Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class) this evening in Bratislava. I thank the people and government of Slovakia for this honor, which belongs to the 140 million people of India,” Prime Minister Modi said on social media.
He added: “I dedicate this award to the lasting friendship between India and Slovakia.”
A symbol of growing Indian-Slovak ties
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi described the award as a reflection of the strong bilateral relationship.
The MEA said Modi called it “testimony to the warmth, trust and affection that unites the people of India and Slovakia”, adding that he hoped the recognition would inspire future generations to strengthen ties between the two nations.
The first ever visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia
PM Modi is currently on a week-long visit to Europe, which includes his first-ever visit to Slovakia by an Indian Prime Minister.
During the visit, India and Slovakia upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive partnership and signed 11 agreements across key sectors including migration, digital technology and defense cooperation.
Strengthening of strategic partnership
The agreements are expected to expand cooperation between the two countries in areas of mutual strategic and economic interest.
Officials said the visit marks a new phase of bilateral engagement, with both sides looking to deepen political, economic and technological cooperation in the coming years.
