
Friday’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday conducted interviews with Maldiv President Mohammad Muizza and said India would provide $ 565 million ( £4 850 crore) credit line of island nation. He also said that interviews on free trade agreement between India and Maldives began.
“India will always support the Maldives to strengthen its defensive skills,” PM Modi also said during the meeting, and after the magic of restlessness, he described a turn in bilateral ties to the island nation.
During the budget in February 2025, Indian assistance to the Maldives has been increased £120 crore compared to last year’s allocation. The government promised a grant £600 crore for the Maldives – an increase of 27 percent £400 crore assigned last year.
PM Modi admitted a ceremonial welcome
PM Modi landed on Friday morning a warm welcome with music and other best ministers of his government, who received him at the International Airport Velen.
A few hours later, Modi was awarded a colorful ceremonial welcome and an honorary guard on the iconic Square of the Republic.
“The deep-touched gesture of the President Muizza to come to the airport to welcome me. I believe that friendship in India-Maldives will scaling new heights in the coming times,” PM Modi wrote in the X-Social Media platform.

During the meeting, the PM Modi and the President of Muizza also published postage stamps containing traditional India and Maldives – a gesture that said PM Modi – showed that “We (nations) are not only neighbors, but also friends.”
On this occasion, Muizza said that he and PM Modi also discussed how to strengthen cooperation and link between India and Maldives, including starting direct flights.
