Expressing deep grief over the Indore and Delhi’s Palam fires, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (18 March 2026) announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh from the PM National Relief Fund for the next of kin of each deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.
A total of 17 people died in the two incidents that happened on Wednesday (March 18, 2026).
The Prime Minister expressed his condolences to those who lost their loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
“Deeply saddened by the loss of life in the fire in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs 200 will be given to the immediate relatives of each deceased by PMNRF,” he said. Injury gets ₹00 allowance for ₹00.
In another post, PM Modi said, “Fire accident in Palam, Delhi is sad. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injuries be healed as soon as possible. An ex-gratia of ₹200 will be given to the immediate relatives of each deceased from PMNRF. The injured will be given ₹50,000. Died in Indore early on Wednesday (March 18 2026) eight family members in a three-story house fire following an explosion at an electric vehicle (EV) charging point outside the building.
In another incident, nine members of a family, including a 70-year-old woman and three of her granddaughters, died after a massive fire tore through a multi-storey residential building in southwest Delhi’s Palam area on Wednesday (March 18, 2026) morning.
