Home Minister G. Parameshwara unveiled a plaque at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday to commemorate the 11 lives lost in the stampede that took place during RCB’s victory celebrations last year.
Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Venkatesh Prasad and MLA NA Haris attended the somber occasion.
Families are not present
However, the family of the victims of the stampede was not present. A KSCA official said the authorities made a conscious decision not to invite family members of the victims as it could stir up emotions from reliving the tragic incident.
“The association has reaffirmed its determination to ensure that all future events at the stadium are conducted with the highest standards of safety, coordination and professionalism, in line with the expectations of stakeholders and the public,” the KSCA said in a statement.
Take responsibility
Mr. Parameshwara explained that RCB and KSCA must take responsibility for safe conduct of matches.
“Whatever responsibility they (RCB) take, they have to agree. KSCA has a certain part and RCB has a certain part. I held two or three meetings where I told KSCA and RCB that they will have to be responsible for whatever happens after that. Everyone has to be responsible, even our police. I told our police to deploy more police so that nothing happens. Mr. Parashvara,” Parash said.
