Plane crash in Wisconsin kills six, including baby — What happened before the plane disappeared from radar? | Today’s news

Six people, including a child, died Tuesday night after a small plane crashed in a wooded area near Wisconsin Dells in the US state of Wisconsin, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The six-seat single-engine Piper PA-46 was flying from Kenosha to Menomonie when it crashed near Mirror Lake State Park in the town of Dellona shortly before 10 p.m. local time, authorities said, according to a news source.

According to the report, it was raining in the area when the thunderstorm moved through.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said on Wednesday that the plane was flying at an altitude of 24,000 feet (7,315 meters) when the pilot reported icing and requested permission to descend.

Air traffic control approved the request, after which the plane began a right-hand descending turn that increased speed until communications and flight tracking data were lost, the NTSB said, according to the AP.

Six dead were found at the crash site

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department said it received several reports of a downed plane Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. Five adults and one child on board the plane were found dead, authorities said.

The plane contacted a nearby flight control tower before the crash, police said. Investigators were reviewing communications to determine the sequence of events that led to the incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and NTSB are investigating the accident, including whether weather conditions contributed to the accident.

No damage is reported on the ground

Authorities said the crash did not damage any nearby structures or injure people on the ground, the AP reported.

The identities of those killed were not released at the time of the report.

Investigators are looking into the plane’s final communications, flight data and weather conditions in the area to determine what caused the plane to crash.
