A mall in Bangalore is being praised on social media for reserving a parking space for expectant mothers. Instagram Reel shared
“Hats off to Nexus department stores in Bangalore for keeping a separate space for women, especially expectant mothers. All other malls in India should do the same,” wrote an Instagram user, sharing a video of a dedicated parking space.
“All other malls in India should have this space to avoid hassle for all MTBs,” the user wrote.
“As the pregnancy progresses, the mother’s center of gravity shifts, making it difficult to balance and walk long distances. These places are located closer to the entrance to prevent physical exertion and are usually wider so they can fully open the car door to get out comfortably,” the user explained in the caption.

“It’s just a small gesture to make public space safer for both mother and child!” the user explained.
“It’s in Vijayawada too,” wrote another user.
“It’s veryyyyy very helpful,” chimed in another.
“This is available in most malls in India,” wrote another user.
While there were positive comments about the initiative, there were also some sarcastic remarks.
“How would anyone verify someone with a fake belly? Belly full of Dominos, McDonald’s, KFC,” wrote one user.
“Targeting pregnant women for product delivery and childcare stuff, desperately hungry marketing and why would a car publicly claim it has a female member expecting a baby? That too in a mall. Pathetic,” responded another.
Another user wrote: “Good for fat ladies who will take advantage of it.”
What is Pink Parking in Bengaluru?
In Bengaluru, the concept of pink parking gained popularity when Brigade Road introduced women-only parking spaces. The first 15 slots were reserved for drivers only.
These are located near the exits. The slots are brightly lit to make movement safer, especially in the late hours. Some private locations, such as shopping malls and smart parking zones, have also added their own pink sections.

Women have parking closer to the entrance, monitored by a camera system and located in less isolated areas. The attendant often makes sure that men do not use these slots.
Reserved parking spaces for expectant mothers are located near the entrances for pregnant women. These spaces are wider and located near the elevators or main doors, making it easier to move around in the later stages of pregnancy.
They carry clear “For Mothers Only” signs. Sometimes it shows a simple pregnancy icon.
Is Pink Parking a Bengaluru thing?
Pink parking spaces are not limited to Bengaluru. Many Indian cities and several countries around the world offer similar designated zones for women drivers.
In India, there is a pink parking lot exclusively for women at the South City Mall in Kolkata. It is clearly marked and located in an easily accessible basement area.

Lulu Mall in Thiruvananthapuram has also introduced a similar women-only parking facility to increase safety and convenience for shoppers.
International women-only parking started in Germany in the 1990s. The concept later spread to South Korea, China, Saudi Arabia and other countries.
