Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday accused the United Democratic Front (UDF) government of “shameless surrender to the RSS agenda” over its written submission to the Supreme Court that state university laws must be aligned with University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations.
In a post on X, Mr Vijayan claimed that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) had defended Kerala’s federal rights and university autonomy for a decade, resisting attempts to use governors’ orders and the UGC to undermine state laws.
He claimed that the United Democratic Front (UDF) government had abandoned this position, which he claimed would have allegedly opened state universities to the governor’s control and supported the centralization and saffron project of the Sangh Parivar.
He added that the government’s stance is a dangerous capitulation that impinges on federalism and university autonomy and the constitutional, secular and democratic foundations of Kerala.
