Pharmacy owner sent to SIT custody in fake drug racket case

Four days after his arrest and seizure of a stash of suspected fake drugs and incriminating documents, a city-based pharmacy owner was on Wednesday taken into custody by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the drug scam.

Veeresh Kumar Jain was produced before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Court on Wednesday. The SIT sought his custody to ascertain his alleged role in the racket and gather details of its operations and logistics. The court subsequently entrusted the custody of Jain to the SIT.

Jain, a native of Rajasthan and owner of Krupa Healthcare near Minerva Circle in Bengaluru, was arrested by the SIT during multi-state raids conducted on Saturday. He is suspected to be a close associate of R. Prashanth, the prime accused, who is currently absconding.

According to the investigation, Jain and Prashanth allegedly ran a fake drug racket for almost five years. The duo allegedly supplied fake drugs to major hospitals and offered them at heavily discounted prices.

Investigators are also probing their alleged operations in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Mumbai as part of a multi-state investigation.
