
The suicide of a second-year Post Graduate Medical (Anaesthesia) student, identified as E. Srinivas, in Karimnagar in the early hours of Tuesday due to apparent financial distress has sent shockwaves through the city.
The tragic incident has prompted demands from his family members for strict action against those who allegedly aided the suicide.
A 43-year-old PG medical student of Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagunur, allegedly ended his life by giving himself a fatal dose of intravenous injection at his residence on Tuesday, sources said.
Reportedly, he joined the PG medical course under the government doctor quota.
He was under severe mental stress due to his mounting debt load in the last few weeks.
In her police complaint, his wife Viplava Sri, a government doctor, alleged that her husband was driven to suicide by his five friends.
Naming them in her complaint, she accused them of borrowing huge sums of money from her husband and also taking bank loans totaling about ₹3 crore in his name.
She further alleged that they refused to return the money and threatened to cause mental pain to her husband.
Karimnagar bi-city police have registered a case under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are investigating.
A detailed investigation of the case is currently underway from all angles to ascertain the exact cause of his suicide, a senior police officer said.
