Gasoline, diesel rate today, March 28: Petrol rate today and diesel rates remained stable in India today even as the government reduced special additional excise duty on automobile fuels two days ago.
The Ministry of Finance, in an announcement dated March 26, reduced the special additional excise duty on gasoline from ₹13 to ₹3 per liter. The same was shortened to zero z ₹10 per liter of diesel.
The move to cut excise duty on petrol and diesel came in response to providing relief to oil marketing companies that are reeling under the pressure of rising oil prices due to the ongoing war between the US and Iran.
However, the retail price of gasoline and diesel remained unchanged on March 28. Petrol price stagnated in Delhi today ₹94.77 per liter while diesel remained flat ₹87.67 per liter in the national capital, according to price announcements by state-run state oil companies.

Key things
- The reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel did not lead to a reduction in retail prices.
- The government aims to support oil marketing companies amid rising oil prices.
- Fuel prices remain stable despite significant reductions in consumption taxes as a result of compensation for losses.
