US Secretary of Defense Pete HegSeth warned on Wednesday (October 15) that the United States and its allies are ready to take further measures against Russia if the war in Ukraine is not over.
Hegset spoke at a meeting of the contact group for defense of Ukraine at NATO headquarters in Brussels and said, “If this war does not end, if there is no way to peace in the short term, then the United States along with our allies take steps that will be needed to store costs.
NATO and Ukraine as key discouraging means
HegSeth stressed that the most effective discouraging means for Russian aggression is a strong NATO and a combat Ukrainian army.
“We are clearly through the eyes of the fact that the most effective discouraging means of Russian aggression is: number one, deadly, capable and European NATO and two, combat Ukrainian army, which can defend itself, and thus continue to discourage Russian aggression along NATO,” he said.
European allies must take over the primary responsibility
While he emphasized the US commitment, HegSeth stressed that European allies must lead the continent’s defense. He appreciated their increased defense expenses and contributions to Ukraine.
“Europe pays, the US provides, NATO fields,” he said, describing the initiative of the list of requirements for Ukraine and urging all NATO members to contribute and avoid “free riders”.
Support for Ukraine remains a priority
HegSeth emphasized the importance of international coordination in Kyiv armed. He encouraged all allies to actively participate in the provision of weapons and resources to ensure that Ukraine could defend and discourage other Russian aggression.
Every country in the alliance must contribute to the efforts to arrange Kiev, he said.

Germany promises Ukraine in military assistance $ 2 billion
Germany announced on Wednesday that Ukraine would provide more than $ 2 billion in military assistance because Kiev indicated that in 2026 it would need $ 120 billion to maintain its defense against the almost four -year war Russia.
