Tamil Nadu plans to set up parks for pets in Chennai and Coimbatore, the Minister of Anitha R. Radhakrishnan announced in the Assembly on Thursday (April 3, 2025). He also stated that measures against control of contraception for community dogs would expand in the state.
Parks for pets to be established in Chennai and Coimbatore at the price of 5 GBP crore would include private participation, he said. These parks would focus on creating awareness among pet owners and should also rejuvenate and healthcare facilities for pets.

The state government would expand the animal sterilization project to ensure effective operation of animal contraceptive centers, he said. The project, which is to be introduced by the Council for the Care of Animals, would expand with private participation at the cost of CRORE 20 ₹.
The veterinary center for the treatment of injured pets in Adyar would be upgraded at the price of 5 GBP Crore. The Tamil Nadu government would set up shelters as part of the “Vallalar Palluyir Kaapagangal” initiative for the location of the animals that was abandoned, recovered and suffered injuries in accidents. The shelters that would maintain them would be set up at the price of 5 ₹ Crore.
The policy of abandoned animals would be formulated in an effort to solve the problems of abandoned pets and their conflicts with community dogs and human beings, he said. The government would set up a center in Chennai Veterinary College for specialized training for animal control measures at the cost of CRORE 3 GBP.
The Minister said that sheep breeding policy in the state would be formulated, which would benefit people from marginalized parts of society.
