The constant rain from Friday increased the tide to most dams in the district and forced the authorities to release water to ensure safe levels of dams.
People living on the banks of Bharathapuzha were warned after the Aliyar dam in Tamil lifted 11 cap by 12 cm, draining water 2,274 cubic feet per second. The statements of the authorities said on Saturday morning that the water level in the Aliyar dam increased unusually due to continuous collisions in the basin.
In addition, 170 cubic tracks per second are released through the Slunice River and seven cubic tracks per second through other Aliyar dams. Officials said that Bharathapuzha would reach 2,457 cubic tracks per second.
The current water level in the Aliyar dam is 1 048.85 feet. This means that the current storage of the dam is 3 783.81 million cubic feet of water.
Due to the heavy rain in the parambicula dam basin, three spills were raised on Friday evening and released 1,191 cubic tracks of water per second.
Most other dams in the Palakkad district also raised their closures to control the water level in the tanks.
The Kanjirapuzha dam opened its three spills by 20 cm. The current water level of the dam remained on Saturday morning 96.12 m. The maximum level of storage of the dam is 97.50 m.
The Malampuzha dam opened all its spills by 5 cm. The current water level in the dam was 112.04 m. It has a storage capacity of 115.06 m.
The Mangalam Dam lifted all its spills by 10 cm. The water level in the dam on Saturday morning was 76.77 m. It has a maximum storage level of 77.88 m.
The POTHUNDA dam opened two shutters of 3 cm and one shutter by 2 cm. The water level in the dam on Saturday morning was 107.65 m, with a maximum storage capacity of 108.204 m.
The Meenkara dam opened its two overlap closures by 2 cm. The water level in the dam remained 156.18 m, with a maximum storage capacity of 156.36 m.
The water level in the Chuliyar dam remained at 153.64 m, with a maximum storage level of 154.08 m.
Water level in the Walayar dam touched 201.80 ms with a maximum storage capacity of 203 m.
The Moolanathara regulator opened two of its cap by 40 cm, one shutter by 20 cm and the other by 50 cm when the water level touched 180.90 m. It has a storage capacity of 186 m.
The Siruvani dam opened its shutter of the river by 5 cm. The water level in the dam on Saturday morning touched 876.78 m. It has a maximum capacity of 878.5 m.
