People should come forward and lead CPI(M): Baby

A massive public rally at the Kozhikode beach on Tuesday evening marked the culmination of a three-day extended meeting of the state committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)). A large number of people, including party workers and sympathizers, thronged the beach to attend the event.

Inaugurating a public meeting held afterwards, the party’s national general secretary MA Baby said that people should come forward to guide the CPI(M) by pointing out its mistakes, aberrations and confusions. He said the expanded meeting of the State Committee was held against the backdrop of electoral setbacks suffered by the party and the Left Democratic Front in Kerala in recent times.

After the electoral defeat, the party held discussions among various groups of people and realized that it had committed certain mistakes. Steps were being taken to rectify them, Mr Baby said. However, he pointed out that another reason for the debacle was the consolidation of all types of regressive forces and the launching of false campaigns against the CPI(M).

One of them was related to an alleged deal between the party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Mr. Baby admitted that the CPI(M) could not effectively counter the creation of such “false notions”. He also alleged that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), which had joined this campaign through social media and other platforms, was also involved in behind-the-scenes talks with the RSS. “VD Satheesan, who once lit a traditional lamp in front of RSS former Sarsangchalak MS Golwalkar’s photo, is capable of this,” he asserted.

Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan, who spoke at the event, alleged that the UDF government has become subservient to the agenda of the RSS. Citing the recital of the full version of the national song Vande Mataram at the swearing-in ceremony of the new government as an example, the CPI(M) leader claimed that the practice has continued at other official events since then.

Party state secretary MV Govindan and senior state officials were present at the event.
