
The former Indian off-spinner R Ashwin revealed that after his 100th test he was considering retirement, but made a final decision during an Australian tour when not selected for Perth test, instead of Washington Sundar. Ashwin, who left in Gabba after the third test against Australia, shared these details during a new podcast from Chennai Super Kings with Mike Hussey.
Ashwin played his final test match in Gabba after performing in the second test in Adelaide. He was omitted from playing eleven for the third test where he announced his retirement.
The 38 -year -old Spinner, currently playing for Chennai Super Kings, has completed his test career as the second highest Indian goal with 537 scalp.

What do you admire most about R. Ashwin’s career?
“To be very honest, I wanted to do it after my 100. The test. And then I thought, ok, let me go in my home season. Because I think you play well and get goals, you do running,” Ashwin said.
“I thought I would probably close the Chennai test here. I finally got a six -point haul and a hundred. So it’s very difficult to stop when you are doing very well,” he added.
“So I continued with the series and we got lost against New Zealand. One thing was just built. And then I thought, okay, let me go to Australia. We’ll see how it goes. Because I was last in Australia, I had a great, great tour.”
Family time has become an important factor in its retirement decision. The physical and mental requirements of the game took a toll.

“I thought it made sense to play a little. I had a lot of fun, but the whole hard courts that I had to walk to get back to the park, physically and mentally, one of the most important things that pulled me down, was family time,” he explained.

His non -call in Perth eventually influenced his decision to retire. “And when I didn’t start in Perth, it was like, well, this circle is still walking. People add very little value to what you go emotionally,” Ashwin said.
“They really don’t think because your emotions are yours, and no one else cares. So I thought about it, and then I thought, well, maybe it’s time.”
