The Chinese court recently ordered two teenagers who were filming for peeing in the hotpot broth in a popular restaurant and their parents to apologize and pay more than 2.2 million yuan ( £2.6 crore) within the damage.
Seventeen -year -old boys whose surnames are Wu and Tang, alternated to stand on the table and pee into the broth in a private dining room at the Haidilao restaurant in Shanghai, reported the State broadcaster CCTV News.
One of them later published a video of his derogatory act on social media, although he “fully realized” a potential negative impact, the media report said.
After the video became viral, Haidilao issued a statement that apologized for the incident. He also assured customers that all dishes in his restaurant were “destroyed and replaced”.
The company also returned more than 4,000 disabled orders for dinner and provided each customer with a special 10 times their original payment.
Two teenagers and their parents were suing for two HAIDILAOs in March, looking for a public apology and more than 23 million yuan ($ 3 million) in their business, harming their reputation and other related costs.
In its decision, the court stated that full compensation to Haidilao was adequate to customers and was directly related to the incident concerning teenagers. However, he stated that tenfold compensation lacked a legal causal link and was considered a “voluntary business decision”, CCTV News said.
The court also stated that teenagers and their parents should apologize to catering companies in designated newspapers and parents would bring financial responsibility for their sons’ conduct.
The decision was approved by the People’s Court of the Huangp district in Shanghai.
He also warned that parents would risk heavy fines if they couldn’t supervise their children.
“This behavior can no longer be rejected as a simple joke,” he said, killing him as “extreme ignoring the rights of others and an obvious challenge for social standards,” he added.
Haidilao, one of the most popular Chinese brands in the world, was founded in Sichuan in 1994. In China, it operates 1,360 stores and more than 1,400 globally, even in the US, the UK, Singapore, Australia and Canada.
