On Friday (July 11, 2025), the Committee of People’s representatives and officials visited the houses in Ayyankuzhi in the immediate vicinity of the Bharat Petroleum Limited-Kochi (BPCL-KR) near AMBALAMUGAL to the butts.
The inhabitants were evacuated from houses after a fire on Tuesday (July 8, 2025). The meeting, chaired by the collector of the district, was asked by a committee consisting of engineer of the Council for Control (PCB), inspector Gram Panchayat Health, a village officer and representatives of BPCL-KKR to submit a message within two days of visiting households. Members of the committee visited households in the presence of residents who remained in temporary accommodation in Chottanikkara.
“We have collected samples to analyze the air quality inside the houses. The report will be submitted to the collector based on the result of the analysis, but it may take some time. Prima facie seems to have improved from a fire without a slight odor,” PCB sources said.
Sonia Murukesan, President Vadavucode-Puthencruz Panchayat, said the visit was primarily to assess whether there was a problem in the houses that remained closed for several days. The smell of burnt plastic seemed to persist.
The collector’s meeting was also appointed by another committee led by K. Manoj, a representative of the collector (Management Disaster Management), including the BPCL-KR security officers, the electric inspector and the KSEB officials to ask and present what the fire has caused. The Committee was asked to present a message within three days.
In addition, they were a representative of the collector (disaster administration), gambling analyst and coordinator of the company’s disaster plan to review the action plan of disaster within one week and recommend changes. The collector also assured the affected families that a high -level meeting would be convened first to look at their requirement to obtain their land.
