Mohsin Naqvi was appointed new president of the Asian cricket council. Naqvi, which also serves as President of the Pakistani cricket board (PCB), was replaced by Shammi Silva, head of cricket Sri Lanka (SLC). Naqvi holds a position for two years, starting on 3rd April 2025.
The decision was taken on Thursday 3rd April through the online session of members of the continental body. Last year, in December, Silva became the new President of ACC after Jay Shah took over the role of the chairman of the International Criket Council (ICC).
In the Naqvi press release, which is also the Minister of the Interior of Pakistan, he said: “I am deeply honored to assume the presidency of the Asian cricket board. Asia remains a heart rhythm of the world cricket and I am determined to cooperate with all Member Councils to speed up the growth of the game and global influence.
“Together we unlock new opportunities, support greater cooperation and take the Asian cricket to unprecedented heights. I also sincerely expand the outgoing President ACC for its leadership and contributions of ACC during its time.”
“It was the privilege to serve as the chairman of the Asian cricket council. The permanent commitment of our Member Councils that work together was crucial in increasing the character of ACC throughout the region,” Silva said, which was replaced by NAQVI.
“I Extend MY GRATITHEME TO MY PEDECESSOR, Mr. Jay Shah, Chairman of the ICC, Under Whose Leadership The ACC Reached Significant Milestones And Paving The Way for the Continumed Development of Cricket in Asia.
Mohsin naqvi focus on Asia Cup 2025
The first main task of Naqvi is the Asia Cup 2025 to be scheduled in September. Formerly, India today announced that the United Arab Emirates (SAE) is a leading runner that hosts the tournament of six teams.
Although India is a specified host for the Asia Cup, the Asian cricket council (ACC) is expected to complete the UAE as a neutral place. This decision is governed by an agreement mediated by the International Criket Council (ICC) between India and Pakistan, which ensures that in neutral places there are matches between the two nations at the main events of ICC.
