Namma Metro commuting will have to earn money from now on the use of toilets at 12 stations. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) handed over toilets to the toilet management in unpaid areas of these Sulabh International stations, a non -profit organization known for managing public hygienic facilities. According to a higher BMRCL official, users will now be obliged to pay 2 ₹ using the urinal and 5 GBP using the toilet.
In the first phase of the station where these fees were. Yelachenahalli, Sir M Visvesvaraya (Central College), Dr. Brom Ambedha (Vidhana Judge), Cubbon Park and Krantivira Sangolli Rayann.
This step comes months after the introduction of a steep fare increase up to 71%.
When the Namma Metro first started operation in 2011 with a line connecting Baiyappanahali with MG Road, the lack of access to the toilets for the public has become a questionable question. In response to the installation of public pressure from the State Commission for Human Rights in Karnataka, the absence of toilets violated the fundamental rights. BMRCL eventually agreed to provide free access to passengers in the paid playground in 2015.
However, this latest decision on imposing fees in unpaid zones was angry with many commuting zones. “We are already burdened with increased fares and now even basic devices, such as toilets, come at the price. It’s like profiteering in the name of comfort,” Shalini R. said, a regular commuting from Jayanagar.
Other passengers, Santosh Kumar, which starts with a subway in Banashankari, said, “The metro station should be inclusive and friendly to people. Charging toilets, especially when the fares have just grown, sends incorrect priorities.”
Some others said that if it means that the toilets will be well maintained, the nominal amount will not pay a bad idea. “The metro station is usually clean, but I can’t say the same about the toilets I used in some stations. If the collection of nominal amounts will improve cleanliness, then I don’t mind paying,” Dharini said. N, commuting from Kengeri.
