A passenger information system and QR code to find exact bus timetables will be installed at Kozhikode Mofussil Bus Stand on November 21 as part of the phased rollout of BUSZ, an advanced mobility solution to transform public transport with smart solutions.
District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh will launch the project, which is being implemented with the support of a team of IT professionals from Kozhikode and the Kozhikode Bus Operators Association, for free.
The project is coming to Kozhikode city after a two-year trial involving areas like Kunnamangalam, Mukkam, Thamarassery and Thiruvambady. Supported by a mobile app suitable for commuting, a comprehensive suite of digital tools is expected to be introduced, including automated on-board notification systems.
According to the designers, the passenger information system uses GPS tools and provides passengers with live bus tracking, accurate arrival forecasts and stop information. This is a technology implemented in several foreign countries, they said.
The engineers working on the project said that the “BUSZ app” is available for free download from the Google Play Store. In the next phase, the displays proposed in the buses will be multilingual and customizable, they added.
To assist passengers, especially the elderly and visually impaired, the buses will be equipped with GPS-triggered automated audio-visual announcements, reducing driver dependency and improving the travel experience. The project team said that they are also preparing to install the same at all KSRTC depots.
