The release of “Kodi” Suni, convicted of the murder of TP Chandrasekharan, was canceled after violating the conditions of release by failing to report to the Meenangadi police station in Wayanad, Kerala.
Suni, who was taken to Kannur Central Jail on Thursday (July 31, 2025), was transported on Thursday (July 31, 2025) in the inspector Meenangadi’s Santhosh Kumar, awarded on July 21st.
Mr. Kumar told Hindu that according to the conditions of release he was supposed to remain in Meenangadi a police station. Once he announced, he was found to stay in the resort within the Kenichira police station, bordering Kannur and Wayanad, which was a violation of the conditions. This was immediately reported to the Chief of the District Police and a report was presented, he added.
The incident also intensified concerns about repeated disruption of security in Kannur prison. Three civil police officers – Visakh, Vineesh and Jishn from the AR camp – were recently suspended after the ministry investigation, which found that the accused had consumed alcohol in police custody.
The incident occurred on July 17th, when Suni together with his colleague accused by Muhammed Rafi and Shinoj was transported to another district court Thalassery. During the lunch break, it was reportedly allowed to have food in a nearby hotel, where their friends reportedly gave them alcohol in the presence of police officers.
This is not the first security problem associated with Suni. Previously, he was accused of attacking a prison guard who asked him about using a mobile phone inside the prison. After repeated violation, Suni was moved to 10. Kannur Central Jail block, an area previously marked for more safety garbage.
Repeated violations ruled by criticism of lax recovery and supervision in one of the most important remedial facilities of Kerala.
