Amid heightened political campaigning in the Bihar polls, a supporter of Jan Suraaj’s party was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Patna’s Mokama area on Thursday (October 30, 2025).
But the locals claimed that activist Jan Suraaj was shot during a clash between supporters of two parties.
“Police received information that a supporter of the candidate died during campaigning in Mokama Taal area. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be known as the body has not been handed over to the police,” Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma told PTI.

Dular Chand Yadav died while campaigning for Jan Suraj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, another officer said.
“Whether he succumbed to bullet injuries or it was an accidental death can be ascertained when the police get the body,” the SSP said.
According to locals, the clash between supporters of the two candidates took place during a campaign in the Mokama Taal area. “Mrs. allegations that the deceased was shot dead by supporters of his anti-candidate party,” the SSP said, adding that the matter would be investigated from all angles.
A large number of security personnel have been deployed in the area, he said, adding that investigations are underway.
In a statement, Jan Suraj party state president Manoj Bharti said, “The incident took place at the behest of those seeking votes by creating fear of ‘jungle raj’. It is an attack on our democratic rights. We strongly condemn the attack on the convoy of our Mokam assembly candidate, Priyadarshi Piyush, and the killing of one of his supporters.” He also said that every candidate has the right to implement a public information program.
“Attacking them during election campaigns, firing bullets as a show of dominance and running over a supporter’s vehicle to kill them are heinous crimes,” said party chief Jan Suraaj.
JD(U) strongman Anant Singh is in the fray in Mokama, while RJD has fielded Veena Devi. Elections will be held in Mokama on November 6.
Party supporters of Jan Suraaj accused the JD(U) candidate of creating violence in the area.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Singh said, “I don’t know how it happened. My convoy was attacked by my opponents when we were campaigning in the Mokama Taal area. I know that Suraj Bhaan Singh, husband of the RJD candidate, was involved.” It is learned that the deceased had earlier contested the election against Singh from the Mokama seat as an independent candidate but lost.
Reacting to the incident, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav asked, “How do people move freely with arms during campaigning when a model code of conduct has already been put in place? He also said, “The killing of Dular Chand Yadav is a matter of grave concern. The incident raises a question mark over the law and order situation in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi must see all this. He always talks about NDA rule in Bihar. What should it be called “paradise”?”.
Jan Suraaj’s party claimed that the biggest irony was that “all this was done at the behest of those who call themselves advocates of good governance and seek votes in the name of enemy jungle raj”.
“The Bihar police must arrest the accused as soon as possible. We have also urged the police to ensure the safety of Jan Suraj’s candidates,” the statement said.
