As Donald Trump confirmed Monday that his plan to build a new $250 million White House ballroom had entered the next phase, construction workers sprang into action, tearing down the face of the East Wing.
“I am pleased to announce that ground has been broken on the White House grounds to build a new, large, beautiful White House Ballroom,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“The East Wing, completely separate from the White House itself, is being fully modernized as part of this process and will be more beautiful than ever when completed!” added the US President.
Videos taken Monday afternoon showed renovation work well underway, with Trump assuring people on social media that the ballroom was funded by wealthy benefactors, not taxpayers.
Work continues on the 90,000-square-foot Trump Ballroom, one of the largest White House renovations in decades.
Not since President Harry Truman built what became the West Wing has there been such a large construction project on the White House grounds, The New York Times reported.
