Parthiv Patel opts out of BCCI selector role, Pragyan Ojha continues as chairman

Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel, widely tipped to replace Ajit Agarkar as the West Zone representative on the BCCI senior selection committee, did not apply for the position, paving the way for Pragyan Ojha to continue as chairman for the rest of his tenure.

The deadline for applications to fill the vacancy in the Western Zone ended on Wednesday, Parthiv decided to stay away from the tender process.

“I don’t know if BCCI will extend the deadline, but Parthiv did not ask till October 14 at 5 pm. The situation may change if the deadline is extended or there is a change of heart,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Ojha, the South Zone representative, is set to be the chairman for the rest of his tenure, with his higher number of Test appearances among the existing selectors boosting his candidature.

Will Powar take over from the West?

Ramesh Powar, who was widely expected to become the chairman of the junior selection committee, could now emerge as a contender for the position of senior selector from the West Zone.

Former India wicketkeeper Sameer Dighe is another name doing the rounds. Both Powar and Dighe applied when the constituencies were last advertised.

However, the number of prominent eligible candidates from the West Zone appears to be limited unless the BCCI decides to extend the deadline to allow Parthiv to apply.

as things stand It looks like Parthiv will continue with the coaching staff of Gujarat Titans and his broadcasting commitments, rather than taking a role on the senior selection committee.
