Parliamentary panel to visit HMT Kalamassery unit

The Parliamentary Committee on Government Guarantees has promised to submit a report with recommendations to expedite the revival of Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT), a unit of Kalamassery, Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden said on Monday (October 5, 2026).
A committee headed by Harendra Singh Malik inspected the HMT unit on Monday after a panel meeting held in Kottayam on Saturday (October 3, 2026). The committee has informed MPs that it will submit a report to the Lok Sabha containing its findings and recommend action to the concerned Union ministries and agencies to speed up the recovery process, Mr Eden said in a statement.
Mr. Eden said the proceedings were part of the follow-up action on the assurance issued by the Union Government in response to a question raised by him in the Lok Sabha on February 4, 2025, on Public Sector Undertaking (PSU).
In its reply, the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries stated that a technical committee headed by Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat to prepare a plan to revive the company.
Following the visit, Mr Eden held discussions with HMT management and union leaders. They decided to meet Chief Minister VD Satheesan soon to bring the PSU issues to the attention of the state government.
