The Union government on Friday (Dec 19, 2025) accused the opposition of disrupting the debate in Parliament on the issue of air pollution in the National Capital Region and of “unacceptable behaviour” during the debate on the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Bill.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju called it “very productive” at a press conference after the end of the winter session, as eight bills were passed after debates in both houses. He said the laws will accelerate the reforms being implemented by the Narendra Modi government to uplift the lives of the common people.
“The Modi government’s reform express will not stop. It will accelerate now. The bills will contribute in a big way to our reform initiatives. Millions of people will benefit from it, their lives will change and it will help bring all-round development in the country,” he said.
However, he criticized the behavior of opposition MPs during the debate on the bill in the Lok Sabha. The Union minister said that while some opposition leaders climbed the tables, some Congress members also conveyed that there was no demand for a debate on pollution due to which the issue could not be debated.
Stating that the government was ready for a debate on pollution, he said the concerned minister had prepared for the debate after the topic was mentioned in the names of three members – Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Kanimozhi and Bansuri Swaraj.
“But the Congress encouraged others to hold protests (on the bill) in the Well of the House. They threw papers and stood on tables and stopped the proceedings. I want to tell the opposition that such tactics will not get votes. Only good work will get them votes,” he said.
