Andhra Pradesh State Child Rights Commission Chairman Vetukuri Suryanarajana Raju on Saturday (June 13, 2026) urged parents not to allow their children to use social media platforms as their minds will be disturbed by the availability of unproductive content on these platforms.
Speaking to The Hindu in Vizianagaram, he said the Commission had recommended the state government to come up with legislation to ban children below 16 from using social media.

He said the panel submitted a note to Education Minister Naru Lokesh to study the options of enacting an exclusive law to protect children from adult content and others. Mr. Raju asked parents to check the smart phones used by children and educate them about the ill effects of social media that would allow them to contact strangers. He said teenagers need to focus on academics and careers to have a bright future instead of being trapped by social media influencers and strangers.
