Parents, coaches play a vital role in the education of athletes: minister

Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy on Sunday said that parents and coaches play an invaluable role in helping young athletes realize their potential. He was speaking at the valedictory function of the summer coaching camps organized by the Andhra Pradesh Sports Authority at the DSA Indoor Stadium in Gopalapatnam.

The minister said that the state government is prioritizing the development of sports by providing quality training, modern infrastructure and incentives to sportspersons. He noted that sports not only promotes discipline and self-confidence among the youth but also opens employment opportunities.

District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore praised the athletes, parents and coaches for their contribution to the sport. Visakhapatnam West MLA PGVR Naidu (Gana Babu) said that summer coaching camps serve as platforms to identify and nurture future sports talent and reiterated the government’s commitment to develop Visakhapatnam as a sports hub.

Dronacharya and Arjuna awardees were felicitated on the occasion and certificates were presented to the participants who excelled in the camps. Demonstrations of young athletes aroused appreciation from the audience. SAAP Board Director M. Durga Ramesh Kumar, DSDO June Gallyot, Olympic Association Secretary, K. Suryanarayana, Dronacharya Ramana Rao awardee, coaches, athletes and parents were present.
