Schools and colleges should not become assessment factories but temples of teaching life lessons, said members of the Parents Association of Andhra Pradesh (PAAP). PAAP members held a round table meeting here on Friday expressing concern over nine student suicides within six months of the new academic year in SPSR Nellore district.
The PAAP members requested the Chief Minister to immediately respond to the matter, implement the orders of the Supreme Court and release a white paper on these tragic incidents. Speaking on the occasion, PAAP President S. Narahari said, “We have to save the lives of our children from value factories. Out of the nine suicides, seven took place in hostels or colleges affiliated to educational institutions.”
“PAAP is strongly arguing that there is a systemic crisis in the state which is costing our children’s lives. The government has not issued any white paper on this. On July 25, 2025, in the Sukdeb Saha case, a bench of the Supreme Court declared the mental health of students a right to life under Article 21 and issued 15 mandatory directions. But the AP government did not follow it,” he added.
PAAP members have warned that if the Supreme Court orders are not implemented immediately, it will be forced to file a legal action against the state government to protect students’ rights.
