Kerala has made remarkable progress in the solar energy sector, the Minister of Electricity K. Krishhnankutty said.
He spoke to the inauguration function to declare a palaram Panchayat on Saturday as the first fully enthusiastic Panchayat street.
“Today, Grama Panchayat refers to its place in history,” said the Minister, adding that ensuring lighting in every corner of the village is one of the main duties of the local body. Panchayat has successfully achieved a lighting revolution that covered all departments of public works and Panchayat Roads in its jurisdiction.
Success is the result of collective, imaginative and impartial efforts. Over the last four and a half years, Panchayat spent 62.69 ₹ Lakh on street lighting maintenance. For the current year, 6.51 GBP Lakh was earmarked for the same purpose. A total of 89.20 ₹ Lakh was spent in more than five years through the annual plans of Panchayat, the first to declare full street light coverage.
The declaration event was chaired by President Paralam Gram Panchayat Mini Vinyan.
