On Saturday, the district collector Sridhar Chamakuri told the farmers Payapa of Chitvel and Penagalur Mandal in the district of Annamayya not to sell his production below 8 ₹ for kg. After seeing Papaya plantations in two mandals, the collector interact with farmers and took note of their complaints about declining prices.
In an interview with the media, Mr. Sridhar Chamakuri said that measures were initiated for prices. “Daily fixation meetings involving traders and officials would ensure transparency, while the control post and control rooms would limit exploitation. Of the 58,400 tonnes of papaya yield in Chitvel, 34,500 tonnes have already been sold, 23,900 tons will be sold,” he said.
The collector said officials also watched wholesale markets in Nový Delhi and Lucknow to maintain parity. “Officials and traders expect Dasara a price increase in the season,” Middlemen warned, to keep far from harassment of farmers. He said that strict steps would be taken against those who try to procure the stocks of Papáya at lower prices.
