The Cabinet subcommittee established by the Pandjab government to decide to “wage a war against drugs” on Monday (June 9, 2025) to create a robust system for drug treatment in the middle of the number of drug addicts looking for treatment in government dependent centers and hospitals.
He said that this key step came when the ongoing campaign against the drug threat successfully disrupted the line of supplier drugs, leading to a remarkable increase in individuals looking for treatment.
“Due to the growing number of drug addicts who are looking for treatment in government centers and hospitals, the subcommittee has quickly shifted to expand the capacity and strengthen medical support. The decision includes an immediate recruitment of 200 psychologists for six months.
16,000 arrests
The subcommittee also ordered the medical department to submit a comprehensive proposal for the recruitment of all necessary healthcare professionals within a week, he added. The Minister of Finance said that up to 9,580 cases under the Narcotic drug and the Psychotropic substance Act (NDP) and 16,348 persons were arrested as part of the campaign of drugs from 1 March 2025 to 8 June. “Against drug traders, which led to the demolition of real estate belonging to 118 individuals involved in drug trade. A strict measure was obtained during this period. During this period, a significant number of illegal substances were obtained, including 622 kg of heroin, 14,976 kg of poppy, 252 kg Opia,” he said. “
Mr. Cheema said in the doubt of the opposition parties about the campaign: “The drugs were rooted in Pandjab during the Akal-BJP and Congress governments, causing youth to be vulnerable. I urge opposition parties to support this key campaign rather than involved in a narrow policy that regulates public prosperity.”
