The founder of the “Appikko” Movement Panddurange Hegde from the Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka was selected for the first Veerendrakumar Memorial National Though Leadership Award. He was chosen for his contributions to maintain nature and the environment.
The prize is for contributions to the areas of the environment, philosophy, literature, politics, social work and human rights. In cash, it carries a quotation, shield and £ 5 and will be presented on the anniversary of Veerendrakumar’s death 28. The jury of the prize consisted of the writer and criticism of Prof. MK Sanoo, former Minister of Department Jairam Ramesh and activist Vandan Shiva.
