Panathur Main Road in East Bengaluru, which was closed for vehicular movement for white lining work, is unlikely to reopen on the scheduled date as the civil works have been delayed.
The stretch, a key link between the city center and the eastern parts, up to the outskirts of the city, remained closed since October 10 due to whitewash and was due to reopen on November 1.
However, a traffic advisory issued on Thursday said, “Due to ongoing work by KPTCL, BWSSB and BESCOM, Panathur Road project is facing delay. Re-opening date will be announced soon. Public’s cooperation is requested.”
Officials said the laying and curing work is yet to start as it has been delayed by the activities of other civic agencies mentioned above.
According to the traffic police, the closure of Panathur Road had a knock-on effect on HAL Airport Road, where most of the vehicular traffic is diverted.
“From ISRO junction to Marathahalli till Varthur, traffic jams have worsened. Additional personnel from HAL traffic police station and nearby stations have been deployed,” a senior police officer told The Hindu.
The officer added that the delay could extend by three to five days, depending on the weather, as rain could push the deadline further.
